When we've had our say, we usually believe we've communicated. But have we? Communication isn't getting the word out - it's getting the word in. In to the hearts and minds of an audience. But it is impossible to be sure you've made that connection without engaging with your audience. When you tell them how great your product is, do they hear pride, or boasting? How do you know? It's really not that hard. Ask them. Directed feedback is the only way to know you've truly communicated.

You can push people, and they'll go your way for a little while. You can pull them, and they'll come along, for a time. But real leadership is about motivating them so that they don't just go where you tell them to, but instead they suggest new directions you'd never imagined and innovative new ways to get there.
We are in a knowledge economy. We trade knowledge like a commodity, hoard it like a treasure, protect it like a precious resource. But do we spend enough time acquiring it? Refining it? Sharing it?
