Does Bettger mean bores will succeed? Don't overlook the adverb: earnestly. Knowing the core story of your business - what makes you unique, even invaluable - is the first step. Being able to articulate that message is next. Doing so earnestly makes that story compelling to the listener, and much more likely to generate a positive response. Doing it consistently - five or six times a day - means you are in the habit of selling yourself and your business, a habit that will reap dividends.

Because every sale converts a sceptic into a believer, someone who has put money where your mouth is and come away satisfied. (If not, you have bigger problems than poor sales!). You absolutely must not squander this invaluable resource. Nurture your customers, keep them happy, and they will become willing and powerful members of your sales force.
Okay. The recipe is simple. But you still have to bake the cake. 'Spend more time,' means refocusing your efforts from anything that distracts you from your core purpose: selling. 'Better prospects,' means putting more energy into research and lead generation so that the valuable time you spend selling has a better prospect for success. Look closely at how you're investing your time right now and apply this formula. Maybe then you can have your cake ... and eat it, too.
